The Velvet Rope Tour was Jackson's follow up to the janet. Tour 1993-1995. Similar to The Velvet Rope album with very dark and explicit themes. The Velvet Rope Tour is a spectacular production of lights, dance & energy the natural synergy of Janet's distinctive[citation needed] vocals and sweet melodies with harder edged dance rhythms excellently choreographed it appealed to a multitude of musical tastes.

Janet Jackson travelled all around the world between April 1998 and January 1999. The Velvet Rope Tour gave her the opportunity to meet all her fans in most of the European countries; Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. North America; United States of America and Canada. Finally; South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. On October 11, 1998 a recording of the tour was released through Home Box Office (HBO) at Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden, New York City. A stop of the tour the recording has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
It featured the now infamous sensually provocative performance of Rope Burn in which an ecstatic male fan is lashed to a chair and gets to watch his favorite sex object pole-dance.
The recording of The Velvet Rope Tour garned numerous award nominations 13 Emmy Awards won 1 and NAACP Image Awards.
