Theo Colborn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dr. Theo Colborn is one of the world's leading authorities on endocrine disrupting chemicals in the environment. She received her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Wisconsin. She was senior scientist and director of the Wildlife and Contaminants project at the World Wildlife Fund.
Along with Dianne Dumanowski and John Peterson Myers, she developed the Endocrine Disruptor Hypothesis, a hypothesis that synthetic chemicals mimic hormones in the human body and cause long-term physiological damage, including reproductive damage. They presented their argument in the book Our Stolen Future.
After leaving WWF, Colborn formed the non-profit group TEDEX, or The Endocrine Disruption Exchange, based in Paonia, Colorado, an organization which is devoted to research surrounding the Endocrine Disruptor Hypothesis.
In June 2000, she was awarded the Blue Planet Prize.
