[edit] History
The first TK Maxx opened in Bristol in 1994. During 2006, the 210th store opened.
TK Maxx' US parent company T.J. Maxx adopted the name TK Maxx to avoid confusion with the existing but separate discount chain T.J. Hughes.
2007 will see a slowing down of new store openings for the company within the U.K. Focus will now be given to revamping older inner city stores and developing individual brands, such as Kids Maxx and Maxx Home.[citation needed]
2007 will also see the company's expansion into the German market, hopefully this will be more successful than the company's earlier attempt at opening stores in the Netherlands.
2007 TK Maxx was an active participant of Comic Relief having been the sole retailer of the Red Nose Day t-shirts which generated £1.9m to the Comic Relief cause.
[edit] Credit card fraud
In March 2007, the company was at the centre of a major credit card fraud scandal. TK Maxx said that details of credit cards and debit cards customers used in store have been stolen by computer hackers, potentially exposing millions of customers to theft. According to the store this affects customers who used their card between January 2003 and June 2004 at any branch of TK Maxx.[1]
