[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Spelling was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Candy Marer (born Carole Gene Marer[1]) and Aaron Spelling, a famed television producer with the ABC network in the 1970s. Both of Spelling's parents were Jewish,[2] though her family celebrated both Christmas and Hanukkah while she was growing up.[3] Spelling is a graduate of Harvard-Westlake School. Her brother, Randy Spelling, is an actor as well.
[edit] Career
Spelling appeared in a number of guest roles (mostly in her father's shows) such as The Love Boat, T.J. Hooker, Hotel, Fantasy Island, Vega$, and Saved by the Bell before landing a regular part in Beverly Hills 90210, a series co-produced by her father and Darren Star.
Since 90210 went off the air, Spelling has worked primarily on independent films including Trick and The House of Yes, although she has appeared in small roles in mainstream films, including Scream 2 and Scary Movie 2. Spelling was also the star of the VH1 celebreality sitcom-based reality show called So NoTORIous, which parodied her image.
Spelling has started her own business, which capitalizes in dog wear. In January 2007, she and her husband also purchased a Bed & Breakfast in Fallbrook, CA (a rural community about 100 miles from Los Angeles), which will be the basis of a new reality show premiering on the Oxygen network in late-March 2007. The name has recently been changed to "Chateau La Rue" after Tori's dog Mimi La Rue.[4]
[edit] Personal life
After her father's death in 2006, Spelling was set to inherit a portion of her father's $500 million estate. The estate was to be divided primarily between her, her brother and her mother. However, Spelling's mother is the executor, and recent reports have stated that Tori inherited just $800,000.[5] Her brother, who is not estranged from his mother, also received $800,000.[citation needed]
In December 2005, after separating from Charlie Shanian, her husband of 14 months, she became engaged to actor Dean McDermott. McDermott had also filed for divorce from his spouse, Mary Jo Eustace, with whom he has children, Jack Montgomery (born October 1998) and Lola (born July 2005). Spelling and McDermott met on the set of the TV movie Mind Over Murder.[6] Spelling married Dean McDermott in Fiji on May 6, 2006. The wedding was held on the beach, and they were barefoot.
During an appearance at the 2006 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto on June 18, 2006, Spelling addressed Eustace's recently published tell-all book. While onstage with Matte Babel Spelling was asked if she found it better dating a Canadian. Spelling replied by saying "they are much nicer and have nasty ex-wives who write tell-all books". In December 2006, Spelling stated that she wanted to write her memoir, to be published by Simon & Schuster in the spring of 2008.[7]
Spelling gave birth to her first child, Liam Aaron McDermott, on Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 in L.A.[8]
