Tough Cookie

Tough Cookie is a UK based independent record label and a producer of audio and video content for the internet. Tough Cookie was set up by Andy Wood and Neill Sullivan in 2004.
Tough Cookie are the producers of "Tiscali Showcase," which began in September 2004 and helped in the early careers of acts such as The Subways, Orson, Paolo Nutini and The Delays
Over 150 acts have been played Tiscali Showcases and been streamed online. This includes The Tiscali Sessions at The Reading Festival in 2005 and 2006 which have featured acts such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jet, Dirty Pretty Things, Guillemots, The Fratellis, The Futureheads, Graham Coxon, Echo & The Bunnymen, We are Scientists and The Rakes.
Tough Cookie is also an independent record label, their first single releases was "Sold" by The Suffrajets in May 2005. Tough Cookie's second signing were The Alps, their initial single "World at War" received its first ever radio play by Steve Lamacq on Radio 1 and was XFM playlisted. The Alps released their second single "Last Dance in 2006 which was agin XFM playlisted.
Tough Cookie's 3rd signing "Gliss" had their debut single "Blue Sky" win Fresh Meat on Zane Lowe's Radio 1show. This led to European support slots for Gliss with BRMC, Billy Corgan and Editors. Gliss released their album "Love The Virgins" in November 2006, following a UK tour with Orson. At one point, the tour was put in jeopardy when Gliss performed naked and subsequently featured in the The Daily Star
Tough Cookie's act The Shakes have released 2 singles to date with 2nd release "Liberty Jones" featuring prominently on Radio 2, XFM and reaching #1 in the World Podcast Charts. Their single "I want a better life" is due for release on April 2nd 2007.
Tough Cookie have distributed tracks from Fleeing New York, DR Lowgold and Four Day Hombre
In 2006, Tough Cookie have recorded acts including: A-ha, Journey South, Kubb, Nizlopi, Corinne Bailey Rae, Tim Finn, Seth Lakeman, Amy Winehouse, My Chemical Romance, Zero 7, Ray LaMontage & Nerina Pallot. Tough Cookie has also filmed and produced interview sessions with Dustin Hoffman, Tim Burton and Richard Linklater
Tough Cookie signed The Polyphonic Spree in the UK in October 2006 to release their "Wait EP" The EP reached number 32 in the Itunes album chart. Tough Cookie recorded the live tracks for Klaxons release Golden Scans which reached number 7 in the UK chart.
On 2nd Febrary 2007 it was announced that Malcolm Gerrie's Whizz Kid Entertainment had bought Tough Cookie. Whizz Kid, which is supported by venture capital funding through Ingenius Media, has bought the company as part of its strategy to build a portfolio new-style music programmes.
Gerrie, formerly chief executive of Initial, said, “Tough Cookie have built up an enviable reputation for delivering cutting edge content and unique online and mobile solutions for an impressive range of clients. All of the programming Whizz Kid Entertainment is developing and producing requires digital applications and this move strengthens our ability to be a one-stop for broadcasters, brands, labels and artists.”
