Talk:Trazodone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page is a mess. Information is scattered everywhere and is not grouped together properly. For example, information about interactions is also under the precautions section. Sections 4, 5 and 6 also all belong in one large section with subdivisions. I'll clean it up eventually. Fuzzform 04:43, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Note that trazodone is not a tetracyclic chemical (four joined rings), rather it has several separate cyclic structures. To quote 'Trazodone is a triazolopyridine derivative, chemically and structurally unrelated to tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants' Gribskov 11:54, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Trazodone extended release
In Italy and in other European countries there is an extend release form of trazodone. Anyone know the different half-life, side effects profile etc compared to "normal" trazodone? I've made some searches but without luck...
Thanks

- I've taken the Trittico AC (extended release), so I know it. As with other ER-psychopharmaceuticals, the plasma concentration builds up more smoothly and peak concs are lower and occuring later than with immediate release galenics; the hypnagogic/sedative effects are thus less pronounced with the same dose Trittico AC than with Trittico. However, Trittico AC is to be taken only 1 or 2x daily, whereas Trittico should be taken 3x daily, if taken as antidepressant and/or anxiolytic. Side effects are also a bit less expressed with the extended-release form. As far as I know, the pharmacological properties of trazodone, i.e. half-life, metabolism and action is not different with the ext.-release, only some pharmacokinetics like cMAX, tMAX; AUC is almost the same with IR- and ER-galenic.--84.163.103.80 16:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
