Tripura Engineering College (TEC) is the only Degree Level Engineering College in the state of Tripura set up with the intention of providing technical education to the aspiring and eligible candidates of the state and the region. It is also one of the five Degree Level Engineering Colleges in the whole of the North-Eastern region. Its courses are affiliated to the Tripura University.
The college has been upgraded to the status of a NIT in 2006 (National Institute of Technology, Agartala). [1]

The College was established in 1965 with the three traditional branches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was initially affiliated to Calcutta University and had the same curriculum structure and examination system as par with Bengal Engineering College, the other institute affiliated to the University. After the establishment of Tripura University, the college was affiliated to the new University. The college is approved by AICTE. From the 1999-2000 academic session a new four-year degree level course in Computer Science & Engineering has been started.
