Untitled Charles Upham biopic is an announced biographical film dramatising the life of New Zealand war hero Charles Upham, the only combatant soldier to win the Victoria Cross twice. Preproduction on the film begun in late 2006 with Weta Workshop producing the costumes, props and conceptual art for the film. Prinicpal photography will take place in New Zealand in October 2007 with a budget of almost NZ$20 million.[1]
It is yet to be confirmed who will play Upham though the production company has stated that they are currently in talks with Russell Crowe, who is their preferred choice for the role.[2]Ralph Fiennes, Heath Ledger and New Zealander Karl Urban have also been asked to consider portraying Upham.[3]
Currently the aim is to start filming in 2007 with a release date targeted for 2008.[4]
