Velodrome Rakyat

Velodrome Rakyat is the 1st Velodrome in the Country in Malaysia.
The brainchild of Velodrome Rakyat was Tan Sri Dato' Seri Darshan Singh Gill, who was the President of Perak Cycling Association who saw the need of a Velodrome in the country. The National Cycling Federation used to send track cyclists to neighbouring countries at a very high cost.
Tan Sri Darshan started this project after receving the blessings from H.R.H. Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah to pursue the project.
Darshan led a nationwide public donation drive and collected RM 3.25 millon thus making the Velodrome the 1st 250 metres timber track in the region.
Velodrome Rakyat has hosted many National and International Event. To name a few are as follows:
1) South East Asian Games (SEA) Games 1989
2) Asian Cycling Championships and Asian Junior Cycling Championships 1993
3) World Cycling Championships B 1997
4) Track World Cup 2000
5) Track World Cup 2001
6) Sultan Azlan Shah Track Asia Cup 2006
