A Vesicointestinal fistula (or intestinovesical fistula) is a form of fistula that forms between the bladder and the bowels.
[edit] Types
Different sources name these fistulae in different ways, but in general, the terms describe the location of the connection between the two structures:
- bladder and intestine: "vesicoenteric", "enterovesical", or "vesicointestinal" (Merck Geriatrics 14-118f, Merck Home 11-149c , GE)
- bladder and colon: "vesicocolic" or "colovesical" (GPnotebook 1309016087)
- bladder and rectum: "vesicorectal" or "rectovesical" (DDB 11193)
[edit] Symptoms/signs
Because of the possibility of transfer between the bladder and the intestines, these fistulae can be characterized by pneumaturia (air bubbles in the urine) or fecaluria (feces in the urine.)
