I was born in southeastern Michigan before 1970, lived in Charlotte and Atlanta for several years, and returned to Detroit in 1991.
I got my first computer in 1978, a TRS-80 Model I with all of 4K. Since then I have run the gamut, from programming ventures, operating a pirate radio station at Duke, creating WildCat! doors, running two BBSes and a FidoNET node, hosting cranky IRC bots on EFnet and Undernet, scripting a popular IPtables firewall, et cetera.
I've designed several websites, both commercial and personal; my own site features over 50 pages at present. I run a Debian-based ProLiant® ML350[1] at home (hosting SMTP, HTTP and Tor servers). I also have a FON wireless router providing a free WiFi hotspot, and have hardware in place to start my own W-ISP in the future.
I was previously a firefighter in North Carolina, and after moving back to Michigan, I graduated first in my class for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) licensure with a 4.0 GPA. That certification expired due to my recent brush with death, but eventually I plan to complete the paramedic (EMT-P) course. Most states have reciprocal agreements concerning EMS, so one can practice almost anywhere in the US once registered with NREMT.
I was issued a lifetime Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Permit by the FCC in 1988. If you're into such things, check out this neat frequency allocation chart.
