State Route 524, commonly known as SR-524, 196th St SW (in Lynnwood), Filbert Road (east of I-5) or Maltby Road (east of Thrashers Corner), is a state highway in the U.S. state of Washington. It runs 14.68 miles from Edmonds in the west to Bothell in the east.

[edit] Route description
SR-524 starts in Edmonds at State Route 104 by the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry Terminal. As it leaves Edmonds to the east and enters Lynnwood, it goes up a steep, curvy hill sometimes called the corkscrew. It passes south of the Alderwood Mall as it goes east of I-5. As it leaves Lynnwood city limits, its name changes to Filbert Road and later Maltby road, and the road becomes less grid-like and winds back and forth. It comes to a halt at State Route 522 at a traffic light-controlled intersection.

- Originally, in January 1964, the route was only from SR-104 to U.S. Route 99 (now SR-99). It was extended to I-5 the next year after the freeway opened. The terminus remained at I-5 until 1992.
- Provisions in the state law designating SR-524 required that it be extended to State Route 527. This was not done, however, because these provisions also stated that if it were extended over existing roads, these roads would not be state-maintained. On April 1, 1992, a new law was passed, and the terminus was moved beyond SR-527 to State Route 522, the current ending of the route.
- Prior to the 1964 state highway renumbering, the portion of the route from SR-104 to U.S. 99, as well as provisions for the route east to SR-527, was called Secondary State Highway 1-W.

SR-524 has two spur routes, one along Third Avenue and Pine Street in Edmonds, the other along 44th Ave W in Lynnwood.
