What exactly, sans demolition, made Waverley Park controversial? --Aika 22:18, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
The fact that:
- It is in the "Melbourne Rain Belt" and such rain was a common feature at this ground
- The fact that it was designed to be one of the biggest stadiums in the world
- The fact that it was a nightmare for anybody from Melbourne CBD and the inner suburbsto get to the stadium
- The fact that public transport was non existant
- The fact that the VFL could (and should) have used it as a bargining tool to twist the MCC the way that they wanted them to do.
- The fact that it was the traditional home of World Series Cricket, the rebel competition going up against the status quo
- And, the design left patrons with weather protection akin to a bus shelter
