Category:West Africa geography stubs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This category is for geographical articles related to West Africa - that is, the countries shown in dark green on the map to the right. You can help Wikipedia by expanding them.
To add an article to this category, use {{AfricaW-geo-stub}} instead of {{Africa-geo-stub}}, {{geo-stub}}, or {{stub}}.
These countries are:
- Benin - this has its own subcategory - use {{Benin-geo-stub}}
- Burkina Faso - this has its own subcategory - use {{BurkinaFaso-geo-stub}}
- Cape Verde - this has its own subcategory - use {{CapeVerde-geo-stub}}
- Côte d'Ivoire - this has its own subcategory - use {{CotedIvoire-geo-stub}} (this country is also known as the Ivory Coast)
- The Gambia - this has its own template, but stubs are categorised into this category - use {{Gambia-geo-stub}}
- Ghana - this has its own subcategory - use {{Ghana-geo-stub}}
- Guinea - this has its own subcategory - use {{Guinea-geo-stub}}
- Guinea-Bissau - this has its own template, but stubs are categorised into this category - use {{GuineaBissau-geo-stub}}

- Togo - this has its own subcategory - use {{Togo-geo-stub}}
(note: Stubs relating to the Azores and Madeira should be assigned to Category: Portugal geography stubs; those for the Canary Islands should be assigned to Category:Spain geography stubs)
Note: As of September 2005, a decision was made to recategorize four countries that Wikipedia had been considering to be primarily West African and occasionally Central African as primarily Central African. The map above has not yet been changed to reflect this decision. These countries should have their geography stubs use the {{AfricaC-geo-stub}} and are:
- Cameroon - this has its own subcategory - use {{Cameroon-geo-stub}}
- Equatorial Guinea - this has a templatee, but no subcategory yet - use {{EquatorialGuinea-geo-stub}}
- Gabon - this has its own subcategory - use {{Gabon-geo-stub}}
- Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville)- this has its own template, but stubs are categorised into Cat:Central Africa geography stubs - use {{RCongo-geo-stub}}
- São Tomé and Príncipe - this has its own subcategory - use {{SaoTomePrincipe-geo-stub}}
- Update: This decision was related to Wikipedia generally applying the United Nations subdivisions of the world, and the UN implemented a new standard in 2005. If this change is to be implemented completely on Wikipedia, the following the following changes will take place affecting this category:
The following category will be moved here:
- Mauritania: {{Mauritania-geo-stub}} (from North Africa)
The following categories will be moved elsewhere:
- Cameroon: {{Cameroon-geo-stub}} (to Central Africa)
- Gabon: {{Gabon-geo-stub}} (to Central Africa)
- Congo-Brazzaville: {{RCongo-geo-stub}} (to Central Africa)
- São Tomé and Príncipe: {{SaoTomePrincipe-geo-stub}} (to Central Africa)
