Westoning

Westoning is a village in Bedfordshire located approximately two miles north-east of junction 12 of the M1 motorway, and beside the Thameslink railway line to London and beyond. The nearest railway station is located in Harlington, just over a mile to the south, though, by foot, it is easier to get to the railway station in Flitwick.
It has a population of over 2000 inhabitants. It has traditionally been represented by a Conservative on the Mid Bedfordshire District Council; it forms part of the Westoning and Tingrith ward.
The village amenities include a newsagent, a butcher and up until December 2005 had three public houses. it also used have a vintage car company called richard shrive cars but that relocated in 2005, it also has a set of offices on the corner of bell close. also has a billingtons car company on the top of sampshill.
The recreational facitlities include westoning football club who have a saturday and sunday team, westoning tennis club that play mostly in the summer, they hold many events and have many teams of men and womens singles and doubles, mixed doubles and has a westoning torunament between its members. its tranquill location has many public footpaths through westonings many farms. the river flit flows behind westonings stud farm.
The lower school situated in the heart in the village was known for its many social occasions that included performances of hindhu culture and country dancing. the performances were conducted in the village fair, all the children took part including Rhona Burgess, Sophie Shirley; Luke Redhead, Mark Barnes, Jack Cowell, Sophia Stevens, Michael Ashby, Daniel Ashby and Darby.
Westoning is also mentioned in a book written by georgina sheridan who wrote about her childhood and her travels to ireland and the meeting of her loved one daniel burgin (who lived in a neighbouring village) but missed her home and friends back in westoning, included many happy stories . the book sold a relatively low number of copies and mainly to westonings residents.
westoning is home to around 1800 residents the village has little redevelopment due to its lack of sites available. its new developments have been highfields, a small number of houses in spensley and a singularly built house on flitwick belonging to a family called the 'Harveys'.
A recent addition to the large number of small businesses present in the quaint village of Westoning includes Green's Plant Hire which is run by budding entrepreneur Joe Green. This will involve offering services such as excavating foundations, digging ponds and clearing gardens; the machines themselves will be available with or without the driver. Green's Plant Hire can be found listed in The Yellow Pages.
It is mentioned in the Doomsday book and was once inhabited by John Bunyan.
It is also the location of "An Execution and a Miracle" - a 13th Century Legend
