Whakamaru

Whakamaru was set up as accommodation for the Whakamaru Hydro Power Station in New Zealand. As well as being a significant contributor of electricity, the Whakamaru complex is the main switching station for the upper Waikato hydropower stations and manages the transmission system for Auckland.
During the summer months Lake Whakamaru is used extensively for water skiing. The Whakamaru Water Ski Club is very busy during the Christmas holidays, although water skiing courses are normally available all year round.
On the 9th to the 12th of February 2007 the Kiwiburn event will be held at Whakamaru Domain, State Highway 30 This is a The New Zealand Regional event of Burning Man held in Nevada's Black Rock Desert in august each year. Kiwiburn is a Ticketed event and can be accessed on the website www.kiwiburn.com
