[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 17:49, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] More Talk
I'd like to propose making redirect pages on Wikipedia Simple for Opera (Web Browser) and Opera (internet suite). If there's redirects on regular Wikipedia, why not on Wikipedia Simple too? It'll help people find what they're looking for. -Ice Ardor 00:17, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Sounds resonable to me. Kc4 23:21, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Massive renaming of categories and articles
I've decided to rename a few articles (most notably History of the Opera Browser, because Opera is known as an Internet Suite, which contains a browser. Also, I'd like to change the category name from Category:Opera browser to Category:Opera Software to cover not only Opera as a browser, but Opera as a company as well. Your thoughts? --wL<speak·check·chill> 07:47, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Applesanity 05:08, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, indeed. --=='''[[User:E-Magination''' ==]] 09:25, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- The question now is, if you want to treat Opera as a company, it wouldn't make sense for the category to fall under the web browsers category, right? Also the current Opera Software page would have to be renamed to Opera ASA for clarification. Applesanity 21:33, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- When it comes to that, I think we'd follow the Manual of Style's common names guideline, which states that the name most used should be the title. I didn't know that Opera Software was in reality called Opera ASA until recent. However, we can use Opera ASA as the first mention of it. -wL<speak·check·chill> 22:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
What if instead of Category:Opera Software, we can create Category:Opera ASA as the parent category for anything having to do with Opera? I was looking around at the conventions for categorizing software companies and the things they do, and this method seems the most common. For example, Category:Adobe_Systems is the parent category for anything having to Adobe Systems.
Then there can be subcategories - one for notable people, one for company information, one for Opera applications in things that aren't computers (Wii, cellphones, TV's) etc. Applesanity 19:12, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Logo Conflict
There seems to be a conflict over whether or not the Opera Logo should be used in templates. This issue needs to be resolved. 208.114.190.130 19:31, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Our fair use policies state that the official logo (as well as any other fair use image) can't be used in template namespace. It is against Fair Use criteria nine in the policy; "[fair use images] should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages." --wL<speak·check> 08:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- I placed Image:Red Serif O.png into the templates. It is a public domain letter graphic with a similar feel to Image:OperaLogo.png. Kc4 22:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
