[edit] Portal:Sikhism
Hi - I think there is an immediate need for major upgrading of this portal, and its something we can do quickly as a team. It won't be ambitious to even make it an WP:FPORT. This Fire Burns Always 20:22, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- What do you have in mind? I don't think we have enough articles or structure yet to the Sikhism articles to begin making a good portal. But, I'm not sure. :) Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 22:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think having several FAs (I don't really know) is a problem, but we need to keep updating the articles, DYKs, pictures and format everything properly. In any case, the portal does need upgrading even if we don't go for FPO. This Fire Burns Always 23:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Public domain sources
As far as I am aware, MacAauliffe's monumental "The Sikh Religion - Its Gurus Sacred Writings and Authors" was first published in 1909 and is now in the public domain. Volume 1 of 6 is digitised here [1] and we can use the information it contains. I also have a print edition (2004 reprint). Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 23:29, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Sukh, You may be interested in this link which lists many hundreds of books on Sikhs at this link here, which is an Indian site called: Digital Library of India. The interface uses "PTIFF" format which can be read by Quicktime from Apple. The interface is rather cumbersome but this site gives you access to huge number of "old" english books. With some pages and the PRO version of Quicktime, the info can be saved locally. Have a look - Please let me know what you think?
-
- I am looking for a better PTIFF reader to use with this site - I wonder if you know of one. Anyway, Happy Reading but make sure you give those eyes a rest now and then!!! Best regards, --Hari Singh 01:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Opinions requested
Opinions on the contributions of an anon editor at Bhatra would be much appreciated. The issues include re-inserting copyvios, making refs point to unreferenced additions etc., but please also see the talk page, the history and this diff: [2]. I'm not familiar with Sikh scripture and literature and this makes it harder for me to work on the section about Bhatra origins. Hoping it's OK to post this request here and thanks for any help. --HJMG 08:48, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Turban (Sikhism)
Hello; I hope this is the right place to mention this. I've noticed that the Turban (Sikhism) page is in considerable need of a thorough cleanup; someone else added the cleanup tag to the article itself, but I've listed on its talk page half a dozen problems that I can see with it. As I say there, I am not really qualified to carry out the necessary editing myself, and as I also say there may well be other more specialist problems I haven't even noticed, but hopefully those with more knowledge than me can improve the article. (In case you're wondering, I wanted to read about the patka (as worn by Monty Panesar), but the relevant section of the article doesn't actually explain even what it is!) need some punjabi translators and scripts--D-Boy 08:21, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Religious leaders
The current organization there is abit muddled, and needs some discussing how to deal with. A general proposal for cleaning it up is posted at Category talk:Religious leaders#Organization proposal, and more input would be great. It doesn't address the issue of Religious leaders/religious workers/religious figures, but that is another issue that exists. Badbilltucker 22:02, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Possible image change
Hi, do you think it would be a good Idea to change the Khanda in the Stub template to the Ek Onkar. Which would look like this
This Sikhism related article is a stub, you can help wikipedia by expanding it.
- This is just an idea I am throwing out there. — Seadog 15:41, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Assesment
I am currently in the process of trying to begin the assessment of the articles in the field of religion, and wonder whether the members of this project would want to have assessment parameters included in the existing project banner, as that is where the assessment wording generally takes place. Please indicate below whether the members of the project would approve of this or not. Thank you in advance for your responses, positive and/or negative. Badbilltucker 22:36, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:19, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Religion
The group indicated above was recently revitalized for, among other things, the purpose of working on those articles whose content is such that the article does not fall within the scope of any particular denomination. To most effectively do this, however, we would benefit greatly if there were at least one member from this Project working on those articles. On that basis, I would encourage and welcome any member of this Project willing to work on those articles to join the Religion WikiProject. Thank you. Badbilltucker 14:45, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Jaswant Singh Khalra
HI All,
A Request for comment - please see Jaswant Singh Khalra. I added an Unbalanced tag on this months ago, and now the main author wants it removed, even though IMHO it is still unbalanced. Please can a few people pop over and give their opinion, this article needs some outside influence. User:Lethaniol
[edit] Taj Mahal RFC
- I've filed an RFC relating to the Taj Mahal at Talk:Taj Mahal#Request for Comment: Inclusion of minority points of view. Your comments would be most welcome. --Joopercoopers 11:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Woefully inadequate article
First off, I'm not a Sikh... but.
I thought the Jhatka article would have been a bit better. I cleaned it up a bit. I have a Sikh friend and I am interested to know what the average Sikh can and cannot eat. Thanks. Tenacious D Fans (talk) 18:14, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Articles needed
Hi. I see a few articles that we need. Obviously even quick stubs are better than nothing.
- Panj Piaré
- Asa-di-Var
- Karah Parsad
- Kavi-darbar
(These are all from Gurpurab.) Thanks. -- Writtenonsand 11:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Need clarification on calendar.
Gurpurab says: "The birthday of Guru Nanak, ... usually comes in the month of November, but the date varies from year to year according to the lunar Indian calendar." I'd linke to link Indian calendar, but that page is a disambiguation page which links to:
- A variety of Hindu calendars, used for civil and religious purposes in India and other parts of Southeast Asia.
- The Indian national calendar, the secular calendar officially used by the Government of India.
-- Neither of these seems right to me. There's also a page on Sikh calendar. Should we change the text at Gurpurab to read "Sikh calendar"? Thanks. -- Writtenonsand 11:58, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
