Moved to Stratford, Ontario, and attended Stratford Central Secondary School. Returned to Toronto to study at Ryerson University. Now lives in the Annex.
Son of a jewish, German immigrant and a second generation Irish-Canadian. Has an older half-brother (of the same father) named Zakary, and a younger sister named Emily-Jean.
[edit] Politics
A very staunch leftist. Believes in Democratic Socialism, and is an active member of the New Democratic Party of Canada. Actively campaigned for NDP candidates Robert Roth and Keith Dinicol for the federal riding of Perth—Wellington in the 2004 and 2006 federal elections, respectively. Is a very passionate Canadian federalist and has been since attending the "Unity Rally" during the 1995 Quebec referendum. Was considering studying Political Science at the University of Toronto or Carleton University in Ottawa.
Is a youth rights activist. Believes in federal electoral reform; lowering the voting age in Canada, and adopting a system of Mixed Member Proportional Representation for the Canadian House of Commons. Also believes in reform to provincial laws regulating the sale of alcohol in Ontario; adopting a more flexible, European model, rather than an absolute minimum age of purchase under any circumstance.
[edit] Comedy
Outside of politics, has a huge fascination with stand-up comedy. Grew up listening to Bill Cosby albums, including Himself and Revenge, and watching shows such as Just for Laughs, Dennis Miller Live, Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on The Comedy Network in Canada. Recently, has found interest in the more cynical and dark style of Dave Attell, Sean Rouse, and Doug Stanhope. Believes that the only good reality TV show was Last Comic Standing in it's first two seasons. After it's third season, the show lost touch with the culture of stand-up comedy, and became, essentially, just another reality TV show.
[edit] The Late Show on SPIRITlive
Is the host of The Late Show on SPIRITlive, on Ryerson University's internet radio station, SPIRITlive.
[edit] Canadian Comedy
Specifically, is of the belief that Canada has a largely untapped resource of highly talented stand-up comedians, such as Sean Collins, Joey Elias, and Stewart Francis. However, Canadian TV is largely in need of smart comedy, e.g. the recently cancelled This is Wonderland. Shows like Air Farce and This Hour Has 22 Minutes (but especially Air Farce) have long since "jumped the shark" and need to be cancelled. Feels that Canadian topical comedy should take a more politically focused approach, similar to that of The Daily Show - something almost achieved with The Rick Mercer Report, although it is, unfortunately, still too tame. Canadian topical television comedy has yet to really tackle relevant issues.
[edit] Will's Canadian Television Comedy Formulas
- ( funny + clever + legal drama ) + inept management = This is Wonderland + CBC
- The Rick Mercer Report = ¼ The Daily Show + ½ This Hour Has 22 Minutes + ¼ Martha Stewart Living
- unoriginal + hammy + stale + garbage = Air Farce
