[edit] William Stewart McKee
William McKee CBE is the former Chief Executive of the Royal Group of Hospitals Trust. He is the son of Margret and James McKee of Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. In 2006 McKee was honoured to receive the title of Commander Of The British Empire (CBE) for service to the NHS in Northern Ireland.
[edit] Service to the NHS in Northern Ireland
One of McKee's important services to the NHS was his campaigning for so-called "Trusts". Formerly the Royal Victoria Hospitals were run as separate entities. McKee saw this as inefficient and joined the Maternity, Children's and A&E hospitals together. It is clear that McKee set the trend for this, as now modern hospitals are run in this way.[citation needed] As of April 2007, all Northern Ireland hospitals will be run under large trusts. McKee was given the job of managing the largest of these, known as the "Belfast Trust".
