Feel the Magic: XY/XX is a video game developed by Sonic Team[1] and published by SEGA for the Nintendo DS. First released in North America on November 16, 2004, it was one of the system's launch titles. Its Japanese title is I Would Die for You (きみのためなら死ねる Kimi no Tame nara Shineru?) and its European title is Project Rub.
In the game, the hero must do everything he can to make a girl fall in love with him. The hero is sent through a series of performances in order to impress her. This game features a voice recognition system through both speaking and breathing. This game is similar to WarioWare: Touched! in that it is composed of several minigames that are loosely linked, as the player tries to impress the girl.
Feel the Magic is played solely with the stylus and microphone. The graphics are simple and stylized, having a 70's look to them. There are three main modes of play. 'Story' mode is the main mode which contains the minigames in chapters. 'Memories' is a mode where one can play any of the previous minigames one has beaten. A third mode called 'Maniac' is where one gets to take all the articles of clothing one earns during the game to dress up the 'host' of the game. One can poke the girl and she reacts in funny ways.
On February 2, 2006, the game won the "Best Concept" award at the 2006 Imagina Games Awards. [2]

[edit] The minigames:
- Bonfire: The goal is to undress the girl, because her clothes are wet. One times the cursor to unbutton the back of her dress. One must also ensure that the bonfire does not go out by fanning its flames.
- Dance: A Simon says-style game, where the girl gets the player to repeat her dance steps. It's very similar to Space Channel 5.
- Yacht: One of the more unique games using the microphone. One blows a sailboat to rescue the girl, avoiding sharks.
- Microphone: Another game that uses the microphone. The player shouts and talks to the girl, trying to get her attention. Each level gets harder as a band starts playing that the player has to shout over. This is probably not a good game to play on a bus or airplane (although you can just blow very heavily into the microphone to get the desired result).
- Candle: The player blows onto the mic to blow out the candle for a shotgun gust of wind, or select individual breaths from a peron by sliding the stylus from a person in a direction.
- Scorpion: There are scorpions crawling on her back and one has to touch them and not the girl. Two types of scorpions are in the game -- one type is slow and big, the other is fast and small.
- Seeker: One has to brush away sand with the stylus. She will show a picture of what she lost (A ring, or seashell, etc.) and one has to find the right one, among similar objects.
- Goldfish: Push the goldfish out of the man's stomach. Later there are turtles and smaller darting little fish.
- Parachute: These parachutists jump out of the plane telling the player a number. The player has to enter their number before they land or the chute does not open. They get longer numbers as the level increases.
- Cart: At the top of the screen the player (a guy in a cart) starts racing down the hill. At the bottom are spiky balls. The object is to sweep them away before he hits one.
- Painter: The player makes his mark for love as he spraypaints hearts and other shapes onto a wall. One has to avoid people jumping in the way.
- Clean Up: The girl fell into mud. The player has to use the stylus to scrub off all the mud. She blushes by the end of this minigame.
- Hands: One has to make the stylus stay on her hand as she is walking. Sometimes bees attack her, forcing the player to stop holding her hand and kill them, taking care not to hit her in the process.
There are many more minigames, these are just a sample of what to expect.
[edit] Followup
A followup titled Where do Babies Come From? (Akachan wa Dokokara Kuruno??) was released on October 20, 2005 in Japan. The North American (and European) version was titled The Rub Rabbits! and released in February 2006 (February the 10th in Europe). It does not star the protagonist of this game; rather, the game focuses on the Rub Rabbit leader as the main protagonist, with the story taking place before he forms the Rub Rabbits.
[edit] Notes
- ^ The game was actually produced by United Game Artists, that merged with Sonic Team in 2003[1]
