Zetland Lifeboat

The Zetland is the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world. It is currently in a free museum in Redcar.
The lifeboat was stationed at Redcar in 1802, built by Henry Greathead of South Shields.
In 1858 the Zetland was donated to the RNLI. The boat was damaged in 1864 when trying to rescue a crew of seven. The RNLI then thought it was no longer fit for service. It was scheduled to be broken up, but following protests it was donated to the people of Redcar.
