Talk:Zippy (Rainbow)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Must question the information about Zippy being made yellow rather than blue due to Geoffrey's football association. The character of Zippy was a part of Rainbow long before Geoffrey Hayes had anything to do with the show. Zippy debuted in 1972 when David Cook was the presenter, and he was yellow from the start; Geoffrey Hayes did not become presenter until 1974. Therefore it would seem questionable whether or not this information is completely accurate- perhaps the writer of the article could cite their source so we know for sure? Mosquitor 18 December 2005
- The article indeed appeared in a full page (probably even double page spread) with pictures of Geoffrey and Zippy in the sports section of a newspaper - likely The Sun or Daily Record - in the 1990s. So the source is from the newspaper reporter/Geoffrey and not something made-up for fun on Wikipedia. Wether the information from Geoffrey is true or not is another matter. (maybe they were going to turn him blue when Geoffrey joined?) There was other articles and online stuff regarding this in a few football fanzines, forums, and Rainbow web sites but the only current things I can find are these. Revolt, 29 December 2005 >
All Arabs will be cheered by the "fact" that everyone's favourite TV puppet, Zippy, is so coloured because Geoffrey has more than a soft spot for United. Can you believe it, Zippy an Arab! (2002)

Zippy was going to be blue before I begged the producers to make him tangerine. I don't think anyone has a clue what he's meant to be, but I do know why he'stangerine. It's because - like me - he's a Dundee United fan. (2004)

Is it really neccessary to describe Zippy's mouth as 'gimp-mask like'? 86.135.178.184 20:11, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
