- The correct title of this article is zx1. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
The zx1 chipset is an Itanium 2 chipset from Hewlett Packard used in some of the HP Integrity servers and workstations. It supports machines with up to 4 CPUs (compare to sx1000). It includes 3 distinct ASICs; a memory and I/O controller, a scalable memory adapter and an I/O adapter.
The memory and I/O controller can be attached directly to up to 12 DDR SDRAM slots. If more slots than this are needed, two scalable memory adapters can be attached instead, allowing up to 48 memory slots. The chipset supports DIMM sizes up to 4GB, theoretically allowing a machine to support up to 192GB of RAM, although the largest currently supported configuration is 128GB.
The I/O adapter is capable of operating in PCI, PCI-X or AGP mode. There may be up to 8 I/O adapters attached to the memory and I/O controller.
The Mako PA-RISC processor uses the same bus as the Itanium 2 processors, allowing HP to also use this chipset for the HP 9000 servers.
The I/O adapter was upgraded to handle AGP-8x for the C8000 workstation.
