Es un actor americano que ha hecho películas incontables y programas de televisión. Es el actor americano vivo con más edad, 102 años. Charles apareció en la mayor parte de películas de Frank Capra, incluyendo a Sr. Smith Goes a Washington, Arsénico y el Viejo Cordón, y Esto es una Maravillosa Vida.

Entre sus muchos papeles como un actor de carácter, quizás el más extensamente recuerdan la Vereda para su representación de J. Homer Bedloe sobre Unión de Enagua. Bedloe era un ejecutivo(directivo) de ferrocarril cobarde que visitó el Hotel de Resto Sombrío de vez en cuando, intentando encontrar la justificación para terminar el servicio de tren de la Bala de cañón Hooterville (y nunca tener éxito). También extensamente lo recuerdan para su aspecto en el " Amo a Lucy " el episodio " Lucy Goes al Hospital. " En la sala de espera, él dice a Ricky que él tiene seis muchachas, y espera un muchacho. Para oír que su esposa ha dado a luz a muchachas de trillizo, él da vuelta a Ricky y rebaja(derriba) la casa con su expresión severa de las dos palabras: ¡" Nueve muchachas! " Él también apareció en tres episodios subsecuentes en la serie, incluyendo el papel principal " del Director comercial. Simultáneo(Concurrente) con su rotura grande en películas como un suplementario, la Vereda se casó con su amor Ruth Covell en 1931. Ellos permanecieron juntos hasta su muerte en 2002. La vereda todavía vive en el Brentwood a casa él compró con ella, para 46,000 dólares, en 1964. Él anda con un bastón, pero permanece sano, y dice que él está todavía disponible para el trabajo.

Todo dicho, la Vereda apareció en más de 150 películas y cientos de programas de televisión. Durante sus días más ocupados, Vereda dijo que él a veces jugaba el que que entra papel en el traje y la filmación de sus dos o tres líneas, luego alejándose rápidamente a otro juego para un traje diferente y un papel diferente.
Su aspecto más reciente sobre la pantalla de película estaba en la Fecha del 1987 con Angel con Phoebe Cates y Emmanuelle Béart, pero él siguió actuando por la TV hasta la edad de 90 cuando él apareció en la nueva versión de TV 1995 Disney de su comedia de adolescente de 1970 el Ordenador Llevó Zapatillas de tenis con Kirk Cameron en el papel originado por Kurt Russell.
