The Scientist es una canción del grupo británico Coldplay, y segundo single del álbum "A Rush of Blood to the Head"
La canción está basada en el piano; Chris Martin abre la canción y a él se le une el resto de la banda después del primer estribillo, comenzando por una guitarra acústica y luego, con la primera estrofa, el bajo y la percusión. Martin se inspiró para escribirla después de escuchar la canción de George Harrison "Isn't it a Pity" del álbum "All Things Must Pass".
La canción fue versionada en directo por Aimee Mann y aparece en una edición especial de su álbum Lost in Space. También Belinda Carlisle hizo una versión en directo en el reality show de la ITV1 Hit Me Baby One More Time.
