Israël Finkelstein

Israël Finkelstein est archéologue israëlien, directeur de l'Institut d'Archéologie de l'Université de Tel-Aviv et co-responsable des fouilles de Megiddo (25 strates archéologiques, 7000 ans d'histoire). On lui doit également une contribution aux récentes données archéologiques sur les premiers Israélites en terre de Palestine (fouilles de 1990). C'est une méthode statistique (exploration de surface à grande échelle avec relevé de toutes les traces de vie, puis datation et cartographie par dates) qui a permis la découverte de la sédentarisation des premiers Israélites sur les hautes terres de Cisjordanie. L'habitat de forme ovale très caractéristique évoque les campements bédouins.
