Tony Kushner (né le 16 juillet 1956) est un dramaturge américain, plus connu pour sa pièce de théâtre Angels in America, pour laquelle il a reçu le prix Pulitzer.
Il est né dans une famille juive à Manhattan, mais ses parents, William Kushner et Sylvia (Deutscher) Kushner, deux musiciens classiques, ont déménagé à Lake Charles, en Louisiane après son naissance. Kushner lui-même a déménagé à New York en 1974 pour aller à l'Université Columbia, où il a reçu son diplôme en littérature anglaise en 1978. Après, il a étudié pour être réalisateur à New York University, où il a reçu son magistère en 1984.
En avril de 2003, il a épousé avec son partenaire de longtemps, un rédacteur d'Entertainment Weekly, Mark Harris, à New York. C'était le premier mariage homosexuel qui ait jamais ete autant commente dans la colonne de vœux de mariage au New York Times.
