Mahal is a small town in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is just a sleepy town with not much development over the years. There is just one prominent family (the Yerradoddi's) which has produced many eminent individuals like Reddy Prasad.
Mahal is also the name of a movie that pushed Lata Mangeshkar into stardom with her song Aayega Aanewaala (He will come) starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala. Mahal is also a transformation of Mahil and many people use the name Mahal or Mahil. There is a village in Nawanshare district in Punjab called Mahil Gaila, it is also wirtten as Mahal Gaila.
Mahal is also the Philippine word for either "expensive" or "darling/dear". it is very common to hear couples call each other mahal. The word has become common in large parts of the world due to the large number of Philippine citicens living and working abroad.
