Songs from the Big Chair é o segundo álbum do grupo de Britpop Tears for Fears. Lançado em 1985, é considerado o seu melhor álbum e é também o de maior vendagem. Do álbum se destacam as músicas "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" e "Head Over Heels".

Depois de lançado o álbum, a dupla sai em turnê e volta a gravar apenas em 1989, com o álbum Seeds of Love.

Orzabal e Smith abandonaram as temáticas psicológicas de suas músicas anteriores e tornaram a sua atenção para a política global, com ênfase na era Thatcher - Reagan. O resultado desse trabalho foi "Songs from the Big Chair" (de fevereiro de 1985), quebrando com o velho estilo de pop-eletrônico e marcando um novo estilo de sonoridade que iria consagrar a banda no mundo inteiro. Para este álbum foram recrutados os produtores Chris Hughes e Ian Stanley. O álbum foi premiado cinco vezes com disco de platina em vendas nos Estados Unidos. O título do álbum foi inspirado em uma série de televisão.

O álbum foi um sucesso estrondoso em ambos os lados do Atlântico e lançou vários hits como "Mothers Talk", "Shout" (número 1 nas paradas dos Estados Unidos, além de ser considerado um dos maiores hits dos anos 80), "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", (o maior hit no Reino Unido, obtendo o segundo lugar nas paradas e um outro primeiro lugar nas americanas), "Head Over Heels" (terceiro lugar nos EUA) e "I Believe". A banda sai em turnê mundial. Durante essa turnê a dupla descobre Oleta Adams, que cantava em um bar de Kansas City, no Missouri. Impressionados com a sua voz, eles convidam Oleta para o seu próximo álbum.
