जार्ज सुदर्शन hails from Chennai, India. He completed his BSc(Hons) from Madras (now called Chennai) in 1951 and his Ph. D. from University of Rochester in 1958. He has received many honours and probably the most notable Indian award is the Padma Bhushan awarded by the President of India.
His areas of interest include elementary particle physics, quantum optics, quantum field theory, gauge field theories, fibre bundles, classical mechanics and foundations of physics.
