[edit] Summary
Photographer contacted and gave permission for this of his glider image to be used
The control-stick is nearest in this picture. The control-stick is used to turn the glider and change its speed. The white button on the top of the control stick switches on the radio microphone. Just in front of the control stick is a green lever which can be used to set a steady speed.
The yellow knob in front of the control stick is to release the tow rope.
The black knob with the white dot is to adjust the rudder pedals backwards and forewards. One of the rudder pedals can be seen in the front of the glider. The rudder pedals are used to stop the glider flying sideways.
The blue handle is to make the glider go down faster so the pilot can choose where to land.
The red string that can be seen at the top tells the pilot if the glider is flying straight.
There is also a handle to raise and lower the wheel for landing, but this is difficult to see in this picture.
The top row of dials show (from the left): height, speed and whether the glider is going up or down. Below the top dials, there is a small computer to show which way to go, a compass, and something which tells the pilot the best speed to fly at. Next to the knob with white button is the radio.
