Ground zero
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ground zero is the name for the exact place where an explosion occurs. It is the place where the most damage happens. The further away from ground zero, the less damage there is.
[edit] World Trade Center
Many journalists called the site of the World Trade Center twin towers "Ground Zero" after they collapsed. The towers were destroyed by airplanes hijacked by terrorists on September 11, 2001. The area is currently blocked off and a new Freedom Tower will be built in its place.
