Hồ Chí Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnamese: Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is a city in the south part of Vietnam. It is the biggest city of Vietnam. The city was conquered by the French in 1859, and took the name of Saigon. Saigon was the capital of French Indochina and became an important city during the colonial period. From the independence, in 1954 to 1975, Saigon was the capital of the Republic of Vietnam. At the end of the Vietnam War, Saigon was taken by the North Vietnamese army on 30 April 1975 and named after Hồ Chí Minh the next day. About 6.2 milloin people live in the city.
