Hurricane Katrina was a hurricane that did much damage to the Louisiana city of New Orleans in the United States on August 29, 2005. Parts of the states of Mississippi and Alabama were also badly damaged. It was the most expensive natural disaster in the history of the United States (at $84 billion in damage). Over 1,800 people were killed by the storm. Water flooded the city. Katrina showed major problems for the United States to handle. The United states' response was clearly disorderely. Katrina was at it's worst in New Orleans - 80% of the citizens were killed - those who survived, were left with no transport to evacuate them to safe areas.
