Manco Capac
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Manco Capac, first of fourteen Inca rulers of Peru, was the founder of the Inca empire. His legend says he, along with his wife Mama Ocllo, arose from the waters of Lake Titicaca, and he was told by the sun god to head East to set up his empire. As they walked looking for a good place, Manco taught men to farm, hunt, and fish while Mama Ocllo taught women to work with wool and cotton. Near Cusco, as his sacred golden staff sank in the ground, Manco then decided this was to be the capital city of his empire.
