Proletariat
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A proletariat (often shortened, "prole" in slang) is a term commonly used by Communists, to describe the class of workers in service-industry and the like, producing, clerking and manufacturing, in the modern-age society. It is opposite to peasants of the rural society. It is meant, as said by the idea of Communism, that it should be the proletars who should be doing revolution and taking over the means of production for themselves.
They are often sarcastically referred to as "wage-slaves" by the more cynical of the left-wing.
