Provost
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Provost is the chief academic officer of a College or University. Different schools have different rules for what the Provost does, but most Provosts deal with issues that relate to hiring and firing professors and giving out tenure, handling complaints about academic programs, and deciding what the general academic policies are for the whole school.
At most schools, the Provost also becomes President of the University if the current President dies suddenly or cannot carry out his job.
