Tasmania
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tasmania is a large island off the southern coast of mainland Australia. It is a state of Australia too. Its capital and the largest city is Hobart.
It is believed that the island was joined to the mainland until the end of the most recent ice age approximately 10 000 years ago.
Later Aborigines came and settled on Tasmania. Much later people came from Europe, mostly from the British Empire.
It is the home of rare animals like thylacines (now believed to be extinct) and tasmanian devils.
