[edit] Turkmen alphabet

Hi there,

I've got a couple of questions about the new Latin Turkmen Alphabet:

  1. How well is it received in Turkmenistan? Are the people acutally using it? Are there newspapers printed in it? When people leave notes or send letters to each other, do they use it or do the still use the Cyrillic one? And the schoolchildren - are they learning the old Cyrillic alphabet at all?
  1. Is there anyone who thinks that using the letters ý and y is quite confusing? Is there anyone who thinks that it should have been y an ı like in Turkish and Azeri?

If those of you who write the Turkmen wikipedia think that it's a good idea, maybe you can just rebel and write it with y an ı? There aren't many Turkmen language websites anyway so you could create the new standard.

Think about it ...--Amire80 08:47, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Түркмен

The name of your language on Interwiki links appears as تركمن / Туркмен.

Shouldn't it be Түркмен or Türkmen?--Amire80 21:29, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes Түркмен is correct if you write with cryllic turkmen alphabet. But it is obsolete now. So it must be Türkmen. Parahat 13.06.2006 - 17:59 (GMT+2)

[edit] Türkçe

Selam arkadaşlar. Türkiye Türkçe'siyle yazdığım için lütfen af edin! Ben Türkmen-Vikipediasında yardım etmek istiyorum. Maalesef Türkmen Türkçe'sini yazamıyorum. Onun için size birşey sormak istiyorum. Ben yeni şeyleri Türkiye Türkçe'sinde yazsam, burada Türkmen Türkçe'si yazabilen biriside gerekli değiştirmeleri yapsa, kusura bakan olur mu? -Aquilion 84.190.118.58 12:46, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Kusura bakan olur. Bir Türkmen olarak burada sadece resmi Türkmence (Türkmenistan) ile yazılmasını isterim.

Niye? Uzbek Wikipediyasi da soyle yukselmis. Bu size iyi bir sans. Let people help you. Abdulla

[edit] Peace Corps wiki project

Hi, I will be coming to Turkmenistan in October as a Peace Corps volunteer. I am thinking of setting up some type of wiki-based project to produce pedagogical materials, for English langauge as well as (perhaps) general materials in Turkmen, as I understand there is a lack of textbooks in all areas. My idea is to create a system that is as independent of the Internet and other information technology as possible, so it can be easily used in all regions of the country. Perhaps a centralized local wikipedia running on a single computer or network, which would allow the collaborative gathering and publishing of information without relying on Internet access. This could then be distributed to more remote areas in the form of CD-ROMs or printed materials, while materials and corrections could be submitted via e-mail or even on paper.

If anyone can help offer some practical or technical guidance on this subject, or if something similar is already in the works, please let me know! One possiblity would be arranging to publish the contents of the Turkmen Wikipedia for school use, as has been done in English. Unfortunately I can barely say "hello" in Turkmen yet so I can't really assess how extensive or high-quality the content is, but it's surely better than nothing. I plan to take some standalone version of English Wikipedia with me for my own personal use and for English teaching materials, but while researching this idea I came up with this broader plan. Please be in touch if you are interested. Also, if this is the wrong place for this kind of essage, please move or delete it and tell me where to go. I am a long-time user of Wikipedia but new to editing. Thanks.
