• 6 April - Rudyard Kipling and William Butler Yeats are awarded the Gothenburg Prize for Poetry.
• 19 April - Surgeon R.K. Wilson allegedly takes a photograph of the Loch Ness Monster.
• 4–11 August - 1934 British Empire Games held in London.
• 22 September - Gresford Disaster: A gas explosion took place at Gresford Colliery in Wrexham, north-east Wales which led to the death of 266 miners and rescuers. This was one of the worst tragedies in Welsh mining history.
