1971 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship

The first intercollegiate lacrosse tournament was held in 1881, with Harvard beating Princeton, 3-0, in the championship game, however the National Collegiate Athletic Association did not hold its first national tournament until 1971.
The 1971 tournament championship game was played at Hofstra University in front of 5,458 fans. The 13 and 1 Cornell, led by coach Richie Moran and star players Bob Rule, John Burnap, Bob Shaw, and Alan Rimmer defeated the Maryland Terrapins 12 to 6. Cornell had defeated Army, 17-16, and Maryland beat Navy, 10-7, to reach the finals.
