1UP.com is a video-game site owned and operated by Ziff Davis Media, the media conglomerate behind popular videogame magazines Computer Gaming World (CGW) (now known as Games for Windows: The Official Magazine (or GFW) Magazine), Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM), and the now-defunct Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine (OPM), GMR (magazine), and Xbox Nation (XBN) magazines. It is part of the 1UP Network, which includes said magazines as well as 1UP.com, GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com, GameTab.com, and FileFront.com.
Launched in 2003, 1UP.com does its own original features, news stories, game reviews, and video interviews; it also expands on articles in GFW and EGM. Unlike older gaming sites like GameSpot, IGN and GameSpy, 1UP.com was built from the beginning to be a community-focused social networking site for gamers. For example, their cheats-focused arm, MyCheats.com, is set up so that members of the community can contribute to the construction of game guides. Gamers, editors and game developers can all have profiles, blogs, and friends lists on the site, which are integrated into the editorial content (previews/reviews).
1UP.com hosts special week-long "online cover stories" (examples include Soul Calibur 3, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Virtua Fighter 5) that present each day a new in-depth feature story, interview with the developers, game screenshot gallery, game video footage, and/or video of the game studio and creators.

[edit] The 1UP Show
Since October 21, 2005, 1UP.com has been host to The 1UP Show, a weekly video podcast. The show often presents previews and reviews of games, though it also focuses on video gaming events, interviews with game designers and in-house discussions and debates on gaming topics.
The latest episodes of The 1UP Show (currently in its fifth season) can be downloaded/viewed from their site every Friday, or from podcast managers such as iTunes.
[edit] Podcasts
Previously the 1UP Podcast, 1UP Yours is a weekly internet radio show that takes the form of a discussion among several editors from the 1UP network. The radio show began October 21, 2005 as a weekly news show hosted by Jane Pinckard.
As with The 1UP Show, the 1UP Yours podcast has recently become a more complex and organized radio show. In its current form, the show's hosts are Garnett Lee, Luke Smith, John Davison, and "special guest" Shane Bettenhausen, along Andrew "Skip" Pfister on the audio board (with other 1Up editors, such as "the real special guest" Mark Macdonald, filling in when one of the regular members are on leave), discussing current topics in the video game world. Topics include press announcements, news from gaming conferences, and discussion of game design.
Generally, the program begins with "Whatcha been playing?", wherein the editors discuss games they are currently playing for fun or, as is more often the case, games they are either reviewing or are previewing, and a community segment where they discuss a few questions or thread topics taken from their official message board.
This segment is followed by a more focused feature, which may include a more in-depth discussion on a particular topic (such as reactions to new system launches or the concept of microtransactions in games) or quasi-regular features such as the Four-Minute Warning (an ESPN Pardon the Interruption-style "toss-up" segment) featuring a discussion on a menagerie of subject matters or the "Pile of Shame", in which the editors discuss acclaimed games they've yet to play.
The third segment reviews the news from the past week, complete with reactions from the editors after each topic is brought up.
Occasionally, guests from the industry, including Cliff Bleszinski and Mark Rein from Epic Games, and Ted Price from Insomniac, visit the show to discuss their various products or just participate in the program itself.
The podcast usually lasts about one and a half hours, and is usually recorded on Thursdays, with the podcast being made available the following day, Friday.
[edit] Other podcasts
Along with the 1UP Yours podcast, the 1UP Network is also host to other podcasts: EGM Live* and the GFW Podcast are both hosted by the editors of the respective magazines.
The Retronauts podcast and its supplemental video, Bonus Stage, discuss older ("classic") games and systems and is hosted by 1Up features editor Jeremy Parish and Scott Sharkey. Finally, the Legendary Thread podcast, which focuses on the online game World of Warcraft, is hosted by Game Videos managing editor Demian Linn and 1Up News Editor Luke Smith.
