The 16th Pan American Games are to take place in 2011, in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

PASO selected the city by unanimous acclamation as the host for 16th Pan American Games on Sunday, May 28, 2006.

The Mexican city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, was the only city to have officially put forth a bid for the 2011 Pan American Games. Other potential bids could have come from San Antonio, USA (lost to Rio de Janeiro for the 2007 Games) and Cali, Colombia, which previously hosted the Games in 1971. The U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan, was also considering a bid for the 2011 Games.
