[edit] Welcome!
Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and gives you many benefits, including:
- The use of a username of your choice, provided that it is appropriate.
- The use of your own personal watchlist to which you can add articles that interest you.
- The ability to start new pages.
- The ability to rename pages.
- The ability to edit semi-protected pages.
- The ability to upload images.
- The ability to customize the appearance and behavior of the website.
- The eligibility to eventually become an administrator.
- Your IP address will no longer be visible to other users.
We hope that you choose to become a Wikipedian and create an account. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have on my talk page. By the way, make sure to sign your posts and comments with four tildes (~~~~), which will let others know who left it. AdamBiswanger1 00:32, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How many Office Depots?
Does this IP address corespond to all Office Depot users? Many of us? Only one store? 205.157.110.11 02:16, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Not just office stores, I've used this IP many times from a coffee shop that is a good 1500 ft from an office depot. 205.157.110.11 22:46, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow. That makes no sense to me. I would've thought that this IP can only be used through the Office Depot corporate intranet. 205.157.110.11 22:10, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Edit summaries
Your edit summaries, eg [1] made me smile. Don't feel like getting an account? Not necessary of course to contribute but it is ever so much more friendly than numbers and really just as anonymous.--Arktos talk 09:37, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ah but if you used to be one of us then you must sympathise with not being able to recognise the user and a confusing edit summary takes some time to unravel - though I guess I will probably recognise the next one:-) All the best with the wiki itch :-) Regards from a civilised time of evening in Australia--Arktos talk 09:53, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- without an account, there is really no need for descriptive edit summaries. — Descriptive edit summaries are a good thing, irrespective of whether the editor making the edit has an account or not. There is so much crap underneath the surface with people either elevating or downgrading your view based on what they think of you as an editor. — Yes, sometimes that happens. But, conversely, many editors will regard a good argument, strongly based upon sources and upon our policies and guidelines, as beating a bad argument that isn't backed up with either sources or policies, even if the editor making it has little prior discernable edit history. I also get a chuckle out of using this anon account since it's a wireless signal that I get at my apartment and coffee shop that must be receiving some kind of booster signal from a local office depot. For me, it's truly anon. — But the rest of the world can still work out various things about you based upon your IP address. There's one advantage to pseudonymity: The world at large doesn't know one's IP address. Terming IP address accounts "anonymous" is in some ways a misnomer. In the end, you are choosing between the world being able to find out nothing about you and Wikipedia editors not being able to judge you on your edit history. If you want to see a discussion of accounts, user pages, and the "face" that one presents to Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Uncle G.
That aside, I strongly encourage you to use descriptive edit summaries, when editing articles at least. It is useful to be able to look back in an article's history and see directly from the edit summary when a particular piece of information was added. Uncle G 14:33, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wow
I've actually been aware of you and your postings for some time and I have to say the fact that you consider me "respected", even as an anon, actually means something. Thank you. It's people like you that may actually encourage me to rejoin the coop. --Paul. 205.157.110.11 12:19, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- If you've got a high edit count and almost no warnings, then you shouldn't have to put up with ad hominem attacks like that. I'm actually amazed that no one has manage to trash the reputation of your shared Office Depot IP though -- how do manage it? Do you know how many other users are on your IP? By the way, have you met User talk:68.39.174.238 yet? He's more famous than you for refusing to create an account. = P -- Netsnipe ► 12:26, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't know who this Jim (how many times have he editted from here? Is it confirmed him?) is but there are a lot of good anon wiki editors who use this IP and we've all been blocked! - Paul
[edit] This Ip
Office Depot offers free Wi at all there stores and this IP address relates to ANYONE who use that Wi fi (even in the parking lot or next door) or use the computers at ther store (which they offer to check ink and pricing). If this Jim is a flyby vandal he could be a customer or dude sitting in the parking lot. -- Paul
[edit] My RFA
Hey, thanks for participating in my recent RFA. You were amongst a number of editors who remained neutral on the topic. The RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). I am extremely grateful that you took the time to advise me on to improve as a Wikipedian and I'd like to assure you that I'll do my level best to develop my skills here to a point where you may feel you could trust me with the mop.
I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! [edit] Newyorkbrad's RfA
This is, of course, addressed to the editor from this address who was kind enough to comment favorably on my RfA, which closed this morning. I appreciate the confidence the community has placed in me and am looking forward to my new responsibilities. Please let me know if ever you have any comments or suggestions, especially as I am learning how to use the tools. Best regards, Newyorkbrad 17:38, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

This ought to be of concern to anyone using the WiFi access point associated with this IP address to view Wikipedia, since such activity can get this address blocked. Sorry to be the bearer of such grumpy tidings, and all that. Gosgood 16:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
