It is volunteer based, and is a member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA). The station aims to be a local voice for the Narrabri area, offering access to any member of the community. [edit] Programming
There is a large proportion of country music played on the station. This provides an easy to access outlet for Australian Country music artists. This outlet provides airplay for new artists, which may assist them in gaining a wider audience. Supporting Australian music is an important function of community radio within Australia.
There are other formats available, including Folk and a limited amount of Youth. There have been attempts at conducting surveys, but these have had limited success in altering the programming. This is due to the reliance on volunteer announcers, and a scarcity of members.
The majority of presenters are over 50 and this shows clearly in the programs presented, resulting in a very skewed listener base, in the 50+ demographic. Attempts to address this imbalance are in place but it is believed that there is little chance the current trend will change.
Programming is related purely to the volunteers choice of presentation, with very little control being imposed by the Committee. The John Laws program has been replaced by MAX FM Mornings. The replacement program will be a patchwork of volunteer announcers, presenting their own shows, local interviews and news.
[edit] Income
The station earns income from memberships, sponsorships, fundraising, and grants. The total annual income from the station is approx $100,000, with the majority being earned through sponsorship. The membership level is considerably lower than the average for community stations in regional Australia. The station also receives considerable funding from Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF).
