The 2nd Continental Light Dragoons also known as Sheldon's Horse was raised on December 12, 1776 at Wethersfield, Connecticut for service with the Continental Army. The regiment would see action at the Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown, Battle of Crooked Billet and the Battle of Yorktown. The regiment was furloughed June 9, 1783 at Newburgh, New York and disbanded on November 20, 1783. Notes:
- The Guidon of the 2nd was captured by Banastre Tarleton in 1779; in 2006 it will go up for auction.
- Sgt Elijah Churchill awarded Badge of Military Merit
- The Last furloughed member of the 2nd Dragoons Lemuel Cook died 1866.
