The 3rd New York Regiment was raised, on June 21, 1776, at Albany, New York for service with the Continental Army under Colonel James Clinton. The regiment would see action in the New York Campaign, Fort Stanwix and the Sullivan Expedition. The regiment would be merged into the 1st New York Regiment, on January 1, 1781, and be furloughed, June 2, 1783, at Newburgh, New York and disbanded November 15, 1783.
