[edit] Summary
Image of flags hanging from the ceiling of the Lady Chapel Ambulatory of Christchurch Priory, taken 9 June 2002.
The 48 star United States flag was part of a flag exchange between the Proiry and the USAAF 405th Fighter Group, which had been stationed near by since March 1944. The flag exchange took place in June of 1944, before the 405th departed for Normandy. The US flag was presented by Group Executive Officer, Edgar J. Loftus. A recent attempt to clean the flag resulted in the white stripes becoming tinged red.
