@UK PLC was spun off from its then parent @Software PLC in 1999 to exploit @Software's web site creation and EDI technology. @UK PLC floated on the London Alternative Investment Market in December 2006. @Software PLC was switched from parent to become a subsidiary as part of the float process in March 2006.

@UK PLC creates eCommerce websites for customers ecommerce merchants, and sells goods and services for its eCommerce merchants. Its main sources of merchants are
- E-marketplace - @UK PLC has a growing share of the UK public sector E-marketplace market.
- @UK PLC's major competitors are the IDeA Marketplace (www.ideamarketplace.co.uk), Zanzibar (www.ogcbuyingsolutions.gov.uk) and UKprocure (www.ukprocure.com.)The IDeA Marketplace has a larger share of the public sector market than @UK PLC, especially in Local Authorities but is less cost effective. Zanzibar is considered to be a solution for central government departments and commonly costs ten times the cost of the @UK PLC solution. UKprocure is the leader in the National Health Service with 67 NHS Trusts and has key accounts in the Local Government market such as the City of Liverpool.
- At the time that @UK PLC floated on the AIM market, their shares were valued at 65p each, they are currently valued at 9.75p each (Feb 2007), the shares have dropped over 35% in value since the new year.

@UK PLC has rapidly gained E-procurement market share and currently lists 49 buying organisations on the company website [3]. The company is focused on the problem of supplier adoption for eProcurement and provides suppliers with low cost eCommerce sites that integrate with major financial systems and erp systems such as

@UK PLC at one point had over 100,000 customer websites on the marketplace. The sites at this point were free, and the number was reduced as @UK PLC deleted sites that were not updated. At the time of writing there are 15,336 websites[4] on the SiteGenerator[5] System

@UK PLC set up over 400 @PLC's as part of a long term strategy to establish the @Symbol and quality control the PLC.UK domain name space for generic names. @UK PLC was one of the first organisations to integrate with Companies House around the automation of the @PLC's. The Company Formation business was a spin off from this technology, and combined two of @UK PLC's goals
- Making it easy for small companies to do business and compete with the big boys and
- Cutting the cost of doing business
Electronic Company Formation has transformed the process of incorporation in the UK, and now over 83% of new companies are formed electronically.[9]
